Why can't players use scripts?

So I have been thinking about this for a while, but I am still not sure; Why can't players use scripts? I mean scripts usually are associated with hacking, but Scrips≠Hacks. Scripts are more like "Aid" they help you play the game. Of course they can give you some unfair advantages, but they are not as bad as actual hacks such as aimbot., Let me give an example; My friend made a script for the ambassador, basically when the player's crosshair lines up with an enemies head the ambassador automatically fires, it is usually a headshot. Now it may seem like this is aimbot, it's not. The crosshair Must line up with the head of an enemy, as for aimbot the crosshair snaps. Of course, this gives a player some advantage, but not as much as actualy aimbot. Anyways, thank you for reading and POOTIS on!

Well that is just about as bad as any hack... Think about how many times you may put your crosshair over somebody's head and shoot a little too late or a little too early. You could also just wait behind a corner with the crosshair at head level, and its worse than wallhacking.

 

I disapprove of any script that automates a process you can do on your own (i.e. your friend's script, spy backstab+sap scripts, sniper quickscope scripts, etc.). I use a simple spy script to hide my amby viewmodel while reloading, but I wouldn't even consider using a script that fires the gun for me.

 

The only script i would've allowed in my servers were bhop scripts. But! Only for those who need it. For instances people who have alot of lag due to ping or delay which makes it impossible to bhop with mhweel. This has been a big issue for me but i deal with it.

 

Well you do have a point, is there any way of detecting it though? (No I am not going to do this...) Because, if it is not aimbot, SMAC cannot detect it.. Is there any way of manually editing the Plugin to detect scripts?

Why would you even try to legitimize scripts of anykind. Wow. Are you trying to put a target on yourself?

 

First off, I don't use scripts. This posting just got me to think upon the subject, and I'll chime in with my personal viewpoint on them. I don't see it as a clear cut, black and white issue. I think whether scripting should be considered cheating, un-sportsman like, unfair, etc., is dependent upon the functionality of the script being considered. If the script is one like described to automatically discharge a weapon, then I strongly view that as improper to use. I think those who cheat engage in unfair competition, and only fair competition is competition at all. Therefore, if you cheat, you are not participating in a contest. You are participating in deception and low class behavior.

I think it is ironic that cheaters are generally motivated by a desire to be admired by others for what others believe to be skill, because the admiration is not genuine unless the skill is genuine also. I'll probably never understand how a cheater's mind works, whereby they can convince themselves that they are admired even while inwardly knowing that is false.

That being said, perhaps there could be scripts that offer some off hand utility or house cleaning chores that really have nothing to do with interfering with skill of game play. Since I don't really know anything about scripting in games I cannot offer any example of something along those lines. I have to believe though, that their existence must be possible, and therefore to just flat out condemn all scripting is perhaps a bit short sighted.

That has been my personal view. Now here is an important point: If the "management" of the server you play on stipulates a ban on scripts as a condition to play there, then the moral right thing to do is honor that and don't use them. And that is regardless of what category you think a script you want to use falls into, or if you think you can be caught using them.

 

No I am not, I am not using any scripts.. I was asking a question and put in an example.

 

Im very impressed with your technospeak about scripting. You bring alot of what if this what if that. As long as ive been with steam Nothing of any good has come out of scripting. Im not good with those big words, but i will say, in all of the servers in all the games ive plyed in as a player, admin and owner scripting was NOT ALLOWED. If it gives an unfair advantage over other players, well to me thats simply cheating, no matter how you look at it.

Ah, well I don't use scripts. I like testing some out with bots of course, but I do not use them to advantage in online servers. But how does anti cheat find people who use scripts? I mean scripts can be like .cfg files, meaning they are not cheats.

 

Okay, I use a script I wrote to do the Wrangled Lvl 3 Sentry rocket jump. I don't use it that often, only to save my sentry when it's about to die.

 

Please do not use scripts in our servers. Or anything that might give you an unfair advantage

 

Alrighty then. I'll take it out, since I haven't use it in a few weeks.... I've practiced it enough to do it myself.

 

A script to sentry jump? Sounds pretty interesting.. How does it work?

 

Well, I press 'o' and it fires the wrangler rockets, and crouch jumps. Then I immediately press 'p', and it right clicks, picking up the sentry.

Yes the keys were on purpose.

 

Hm.. Well that script seems pretty harmless, what would give it some unfair advantage it if it was automated, and everything worked with a click of a button.
