Does anybody know how to kill the hl2.exe process when it crashes? Using Task Manager to end it doesnt do anything. Using command prompt to task kill doesnt do anything. Anybody have any ideas how to? Source has been crashing recently and its a pain in the arse to restart my computer ever time it does.

Strange, your task manager should be able to end the process, at least that's how I always have done it. I'm sure there is another way I'm just not familiar with it. Have you tried researching it on google?

Well, I read up on one solution I'm not sure if you have tried it.

Go into Task Manager and look if gameoverlay.exe is there. You have to kill that process first, before you can kill hl2.exe.

You can also try to disable steam overlay. Maybe this will fix your problems.

Well, I read up on a lot of forums etc and they all seem to go around the "gameoverlayui" So I also read try going into your steam folder finding the "gameoverlayui" folder and deleting it. Then reboot computer if hl2.exe won't stop running. After reboot start steam back up, then verify integrity game cache, then start the game up and see if it still happens. If that doesn't help my friend then I ran out of ideas.

I've never had an issues manually terminating hl2.exe, do you have administrative rights? Gameoverlay should be running by default when you start a game with steam, just noting.

I have admin rights of course. Gameoverlay is on, but when I go into processes it isn't there.
